Stream: Madi Diaz, ‘The Other Side’

When Madi Diaz first unveiled her single “Stay Together” last August, it was clear the singer-songwriter was giving up her grounded-in-roots music to see if she could soar with the dream-pop birds. Judging from that song and the new “The Other Side,” she sounds fine in the clouds. “Stay Together” and “The Other Side” (with two remixes) have been released as singles to tease Diaz’s full-length, “Phantom,” due in the fall. While “Stay Together” serves up four minutes of propulsive, radio-friendly exuberance, “The Other Side” is slow-building seduction. Even though Diaz’s music has taken an electro tack, the new songs are thankfully not all about production. If you met her back in her days of touring with the Civil Wars, you’ll still recognize her special voice.
