Silver Lake’s Distant Cousin, singular, not to be confused with Distant Cousins, plural, is a new solo project from Boston-born artist and multi-instrumentalist David Zukofski that fuses electronica and programming with live instruments and textures. His four-track, self-titled EP is about “chosen solitude and [his] desires to sometimes roam the city at night alone” and “how lonely one can feel in an urban environment while being surrounded by an endless amount of people.” “Together//Tonight” is an atmospheric and moody Burial-esque soundscape with a vocal snippet and a slow build that surges into an Andy Scott-like finish, while the closer “To Realize” sounds like the Chemical Brothers meets Four Tet, percolating amid dark samples and raps. Zukofski is currently working on new material and hopes to finish a full-length effort by year’s end.
