Hailing from the Northeast England town of Stockton-on-Tees but sounding as if they come from Flannel USA, Young Rebel Set are firing on all cylinders with soulful folk rock that still maintains lad-appeal. Having already gained plenty of European exposure, the band – Matthew Chipchase, Andrew Parmley, Mark Evans, Chris Parmley and Luke Evans – is about to embark on its first U.S. tour. The quintet’s sophomore album “Crocodile,†released in late 2013, is a Mumford-tinged blend of folk and Britpop. Their newest single “Tuned Transmission†sounds the way a conversation with an old friend feels – honest and optimistic. Previous single “The Lash of the Whip†sounds like a weekend pub-anthem. With a jaunty rhythm section that compliments familiar rustic vocals and crashing drums, Young Rebel Set retain a Billy Bragg-esque Everyman-ness and heartbroken sophistication perfect for summer abandon.
