Ears Wide Open: Annabel Jones

Annabel Jones

After the demise of Bluebell, it’s been a while since anyone has heard from London’s Annabel Jones. That is, until now. The singer-songwriter (and daughter of the late Davy Jones) has resurfaced with a track under her own name this time around, and it’s just as wonderful as anything she’s previously written – if not more. Recently relocating to the City of Angels to continue working on new material, Jones has unveiled the new single “Magnetic,” a vivid electro-pop song featuring colorful Imogen Heap-like vocals over rippling Junior Boys-esque beats. This isn’t your bombastic pop star stuff; the textures and the thoughtful dynamics are both intimate and invigorating. It’s refreshing to hear pop filtered like this again. By no means, however, does this mean Bluebell’s soaring “Normal Heights” should be forgotten.
