Ears Wide Open: Slow White

If you’re headed to Pioneertown this weekend for the Desert Stars Festival and do some of the things people do while communing in the Joshua Tree environs, your experience might sound something like this. Slow White is the L.A.-based psych-rock crew of singer-guitarist Reed Palmer, bassist Daniel Aquarian, drummer Matt Kavannah and keyboardist Whitt Evens. They come “by of Saturn,” they write, and the single they released late last year (and then gussied up in the studio and recently re-released) is “Ocean Song.” It’s a glutinous, glorious 3 1/2 minutes of drone that starts by evoking seagulls at the beach and ends up staring straight into the abyss. Because, dudes, you see things that way.
