Act As If has come a long way since their 2012 EP “The Iron Is Hot.” The quintet led by songwriter Peter Verdell released their second full-length “Steady” in November; although it’s still got that innocent romantic undertone, the new sprawling sonic soundscape is impressive. Early singles like the youthful “Uh Huh” and the sweeping “L.A. Kid” play out their buoyant nature, while the sophisticated title track soothingly simmers with sparse drums and guitars delicately dancing, while Verdell’s harmonies with Sara Lindsay provide most of the emotional arches. It’s an album to listen with the top down for a drive PCH but also one that woos with intimacy. “Steady,” Act As If’s second full-length, is out now via Love Is New.
