Young L.A. sextet Decorator grew by leaps and bounds in 2014. Moving on from their original moniker Raheem Cohen, they polished their sound and released the four-song “Transit” EP in July. There, they fuse garage-pop with ’80s/’90s funk and R&B, loosing party-friendly grooves on their bouncy single “Mad Cali Transit.” The band features three brothers — Miles, Alix and Reece Melendrez — along with Matt Mumcian, Mike Harris and Cameron Johnson. They’re products of the Silverlake Conservatory of Music; if the bass line from the single didn’t tip you off already, Reece Melendrez studied with the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Flea. Proficient beyond their years live, Decorator is mapping out plans for new recordings in 2015.
