Ears Wide Open: Armors

Under the name Breach the Summit, founding members Sam Beresford, Jacob Berger and Olen Kittelsen did the typical dances young bands do — battles of the bands, regional awards competitions, making a name for themselves on their Orange County home turf — all while doing that important other thing young bands do: Search for a distinctive sound and/or message. This week, now counting Kody Buxton and Tyler Mathews as members, the quintet changed their name to Armors and the released the first single under that new moniker. It’s called “Parasite” and it’s not unlike a herd of other radio aspirants, pretty and pleading, slow-building and sprinkled with lush harmonies. The song was produced and mixed by Adam Castilla of the Colourist, with Kittelsen, as he did on Breach the Summit’s 2013 EP “The City,” hitting all the high notes.
