Eight bands. The 116h Annual Golden Dragon Parade. Dancers, martial arts performers, food and kids stuff. Saturday’s Chinese New Year Festival made for a action-packed day as Chinatown welcomed the Year of the Ram. Entertainment on the Live Music Stage was capped by a 45-minute set by virtuoso rock violinist Lili Haydn, who wowed the crowd the her cover of “Kashmir” and other songs from her 2014 album “LiliLand.” Leading into Haydn: Sun Drug showed off some mind-blowing new material; Mount Saint regaled the crowd with their indie-pop; indie-rockers Hunny rocked a big cadre of fans they brought from their West Valley home turf; Echo Park locals Dutch Party did a winning 35 minutes of their new songs; Decorator inspired dancing with their animated set of funky pop; Jessica Fichot performed songs in Chinese and English, including tunes from last fall’s “Dear Shanghai,” a re-imagining of 1940s-era songs; and Green Gerry kicked off the afternoon with a dose of tight indie-rock.
