The South by Southwest Music Festival kicks off today, and already things are getting weird. If people are not talking about Ava on Tinder, they’re talking about the dude who attacked Run the Jewels on stage Monday at the Spotify House. Oh, and the weather. It’s not going to be pretty.

Around 200 L.A. artists are in Austin this week, some on the official festival bills, others doing unofficial-but-no-less-fun things like the monster Burger Records parties. So whom to see?

We were asked to make a Top 10 L.A. bands list — almost impossible, in our mind. But …

First, there is our own “Dear Austin, Love L.A.” party on Wednesday afternoon. Here are the details. And here’s a sexy little playlist featuring songs from the bands playing: Sego, Avid Dancer, Northern American, Dear Boy, Kera & the Lesbians and Rainbow Jackson.

Then, here’s a stream of our Indie FM SXSW Preview show. Click the link to get a tracklist.

And, if we had to pick and if we had to give you some variety, here are 10 more L.A. artists you shouldn’t miss:

â–º Sonic alchemist Shlohmo, whose new album “Dark Red” comes out April 7. Official showcase: Saturday midnight at the Mohawk.

â–º Ryn Weaver. Apparently she’s a darling. Official: Wednesday 10 p.m., Hype Hotel; Thursday 10 p.m., Stubb’s.

â–º Boogie is a Long Beach rapper with serious game. Official: Wednesday 8 p.m., Stubb’s.

â–º If the rain or the crowds put you in a bad mood, the Mowgli’s will make it all better. Official: Wednesday midnight, Buffalo Billiard’s.

â–º If shredding is more your style, Dorothy will rock you. Official: Wednesday 8 p.m., Red 7 Patio.

â–º If you need further shredding, and I’m betting you will, mix in some Dead Sara. Wednesday 9:45 p.m. at the LiveNation Showcase at the Des Moines Embassy.

â–º Folk-rock vibe, done with a deep sense of purpose? Well, Letts. Official: Thursday 8 p.m., Central Presbyterian Church.

â–º Want a sneak preview of an album that will make my year-end Top 10 list? You should see Mini Mansions. Official: Saturday midnight, Buffalo Billiards.

â–º They’re playing at least seven shows in Austin this week; their album “Golem” comes out today; and I still need to see Wand myself. 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Austin Psych Fest Showcase at Hotel Vegas; Saturday at Burgerama Showcase at Hotel Vegas; more.

â–º And the perfect singer-songwriter to give you shelter from the storm. Tom Brosseau. Tuesday 10 p.m. at Red River; Wednesday noon at the Brass House Tavern.

* Many of these artists are playing multiple shows; consult local listings, as they say.
