L.A. rockers Kitten certainly haven’t lost their claws since the early days, or since releasing their audacious self-titled debut album last summer. On Friday night at the Troubadour, in what was scheduled to be the first of two hometown shows wrapping up a spring tour, frontwoman Chloe Chaidez brought typically feral energy to an unhinged hour that mixed old and new tunes.
Was it too much energy, though? Kitten’s second show Saturday night was postponed because Chaidez is suffering from vocal problems. “These are doctor’s orders,” she explained via social media, promising to reschedule the show in a couple of weeks. “I could possibly damage my voice forever if I were to go against this.”
Friday also featured a yet another powerful set from Dear Boy; some swoon-worthy tunes from Mirror Talk, including material from their forthcoming “1997” EP, which is out in May; and some noisy surf-punk from the Aquadolls, who are wrapping up work on a full-length album.
