Husband-and-wife duo Western Bells may look familiar to those who have seen this Samsung Galaxy ad, but Angelenos music fans may have a fond memory for their previous band Robotanists (they made the headlines with this feat). Vocalist Sarah Ellquist DeBlanke and Daniel DeBlanke have also worked on several solo projects among the many bands they’ve joined on tour (Daniel has been a touring member of White Sea, Seven Saturdays and more). However, it’s when they work together that sparks really fly. With Sarah’s velvety vocals draping sparkling synths and Dan’s dynamic guitar work, Western Bells may have fans welcoming the two back into the local scene, no matter the band name. The duo’s first two singles “Hearts & Stars” and “Time Travels” don’t stray too far from Robotanists’ soundscape, but there is definitely a chic layer that is not only yields dramatic results but aims for a new cinematic effect. Western Bells’ current live lineup is fleshed out by Sun Drug’s Steven Wilkin and Taylor Brown and Wait.Think.Fast.’s Jacqueline Santillan.
