L.A. classic rockers the Janks are spreading their wings — and spreading out their releases. The quartet, comprised of brothers Zachary and Dylan Zmed, Nate Light and Leon LeDoux, have been issuing a new single on the last Friday of every month this year. The wave of new songs follows up last November’s “Living in Denial” EP (and 2012’s full-length “Hands of Time”). Like much of their previous work, the Janks work their sweaty, deep grooves in the likes of “Millionaire” and “Do It Anyway,” yet there’s a tender side to what the band calls it “love and hate songs,” as exemplified by “Face the Night,” which sounds like it could be on a Dawes album. For May’s single, “I’m In It Now,” which was recorded in bassist Light’s living room, the quartet ventures into previously unexplored territory, acoustic roots music. Plugged in or unplugged, the Janks are still giving the ’70s a good ride.
