Transplanted Scotsman Charlie Clark is a man with many irons in the fire — he has at least three musical projects ongoing and books the live music at Harvard & Stone — and he has named his new band for the Majestic 12, the secret group formed in 1947 by President Harry S. Truman to hunt down and recover alien spacecraft. An alien with a sense of humor must have penned their bio, which introduces “indie veteran and cat whisperer” Clark and his collaborators, “drummer/singer and undefeated national pie eating champion” Dash Hutton (of Haim) and “bassist/producer and wicker duck enthusiast” Eric McCann (A House for Lions, the New Amsterdams, et al). Clark, who is also prepping the release of new music from Broken Arrow (his collaboration with Brandi Emma), today unveiled the first Majestic 12 single, “The Devil’s Pulpit,” a buzzing indie-pop gem that recalls the work of Clark’s turn-of-the-century guitar band Astrid, who worked with Edwyn Collins in their native Scotland, and luminaries like Teenage Fanclub. The single is out today via Manimal. There must be something in the air in Glasgow, we swear.
