Stream: The New Division, ‘Introspective’

Memo to friends who host those fun ’80s club nights: Mix in a few jams from the new album by aptly named synth-pop artist the New Division and see if any of your patrons notice. The band, the vehicle for the songwriting and production of Riverside’s John Glenn Kunkel, makes synth-pop largely faithful to the likes of New Order, Depeche Mode, the Cure and a host of other bands I once busted out the black stone-washed jeans for. “Gemini,” the New Division’s third album and the follow-up to last year’s “Together We Shine,” found Kunkel working with producer F.J. Desanto of Hypefactor and bassist Charles LaBarbara to fashion some well-crafted, mostly danceable new wave that’s only gently updated for 2015. Current mood: uplifting.

Thank you Kevin. When i saw the name a few weeks back I instantly thought the band might either be a cover band or a synth-pop combo. Very glad they are doing their own thing. Maybe we can book ’em soon down at the Underground.
