Young L.A. trio Raw Fabrics debuted last year with an EP of radio-friendly dance-punk that was heavy on the raw energy and heavier on the jungle rhythms. The trio — singer-guitarist Jack B. Franco, drummer Jon Fredrik and bassist Justus Dixon — are following up with the new EP “Plastic Joy,” due Aug. 18 and recorded with Grammy-winning producer/engineer Joe Chiccarelli (whose resumé included Beck, Morrissey, U2, the Strokes and the Killers). Raw Fabrics has released two songs from the EP, the pulsing single “Move Over” and the buzzing “Dead Instruments” (new video below), which closes with Franco urging “Let’s break the mold.” In the big picture, that’s a tall order, but credit Raw Fabrics with setting off in the right direction.
