Sunset Strip Music Festival is dead

The House of Blues isn’t the only Sunset Strip entity pulling the plug: The Sunset Strip Music Festival is no more, sources confirmed.
The festival, which suffered thinner crowds last year despite being headlined by Jane’s Addiction and Empire of the Sun, had a seven-year run on the legendary slice of Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood. An email to Todd Steadman, executive director of the Sunset Strip Business Association and CEO of the festival, was not immediately returned.
SSMF was launched in 2008 “to promote, preserve and perpetuate the legendary Sunset Strip music experience,” and during its run featured memorable performances, including a handful by some of the recipients of the Elmer Valentine Award (a lifetime achievement nod named for the late co-founder of the Whisky, Roxy and Rainbow Bar & Grill). Jane’s Addiction earned the award last year, following Ozzy Osbourne (2009), Slash (2010), Mötley Crüe (2011), the Doors (2012) and Joan Jett (2013) as honorees.
