Stop the presses. And add punctuation!!! Sacramento-bred dance-punk outfit !!! (Chk Chk Chk) have a new album en route Oct. 16, and yes that’s a monkey on Nic Offer’s shoulder, looking perplexed. Is it because !!! has deviated from their interval of releasing an album every three years since 2001? Is it because Crystal (that’s the monkey’s name) knows that dance-punk is everywhere nowadays and sees the wry truth in titling an album “As If?” Is it because in announcing the album Offer used the word “doozy” four times? “It’s a doozy. Put that in your press release,” he urged. OK, done. We remember “Me and Giuliani Down By the School Yard” like it was yesterday. Anyway, the new album’s latest teaser singles “Freedom! ’15” and “Sick Ass Moon” certainly support Offer’s suggestion that the new album is “all over the place” — they follow up a club jam that !!! released in April titled “All U Writers,” which featured singer Teresa Eggers and to which we paid very close attention. Memo received. As as for Crystal, Offer says, “We’re just really good friends.”
