Amy Blaschke

Amy Blaschke’s “Come See About Loving Me” is a seasonal love song, inviting love to arrive in the fall, winter or summer, the kind of love that warms up a cold day, and has other magical powers over the climate. Looking for love “so true, it rings,” Blaschke plaintively offers herself, admitting that she’s sad but she is indeed free. The endearing lyrics are set against a soft blend of folk and melodic pop, a gentle wall of sound where the emphatic strum of electric guitar responds to her voice like a sun beam scattering light through the trees. “Come See About Loving Me” (recently heard in the ABC drama “Nashville”) is found on Blaschke’s fifth studio album, “Opaline,” due Oct. 9 on Rocket Heart Records. The album, which mixes lush numbers like this one with other, more sparse tunes, was produced by local roots-rock standout Brian Whelan, a solo artist who has played with the likes of Dwight Yoakam, and engineered by Mark Rains (BRMC, Shooter Jennings, et al). Here, the Seattle-born singer is backed by a cast of L.A. players including pedal steel player Eric Heywood, keyboardist Jebin Bruni, bassists Rob Douglas and Lee Pardini and drummers Mitch Marine, Joachim Cooder and Brendan Buckley. Recommended for bleeding hearts and hopeful daydreamers.
