Hemlock Ernst — the hip-hop persona of Samuel T. Herring of Future Islands — was the bigger draw Sunday night, but everybody who stayed at the Echo for ace local wordsmith Busdriver got a double-dose of good. As he was at Echo Park Rising in August, Busdriver was in excellent form, fronting a full band (members of Underground Railroad) with his heady wordplay. Herring, holding forth backed by a lone DJ, preceded him with a set of smart, passionate rhymes.
