Video: Bully, ‘Too Tough’

Nashville’s Bully may be old t-shirts, messy hair grunge rock on the surface, but there’s something to the band’s I-really-just-woke-up-like-this aesthetic that we can embrace as refreshing. The only mistake we might make is thinking Alicia Bognanno, Stewart Copeland, Clayton Parker, and Reece Lazarus don’t give a hoot. Knowing that frontwoman Bognanno studied audio recording, worked for Steve Albini, and got the band signed by Columbia Records label Startime International after releasing one proper single, “Milkman”, in 2014, very much suggests that they’re not messing around. Bully’s album “Feels Like“ came out this past June and, ironically (or not so ironically if you listen to the songs), journalists were blown away, saying the songs bare everything Bognanno has in the deep dark recesses of her soul, and how naked must she feel being so honest and does she regret that… Well, the video for “Too Tough” is the band’s response. Bognanno told NPR, “I am constantly being asked about the intensity and honesty of the lyrics and whether or not I regret putting them out there. This video is a friendly reminder that, yes, obviously we care, but we don’t need to be taken so seriously 100% of the time.” As far as we’re concerned, it’s a good thing to get real in a song, and it sure looks fun to wave a guitar around as piles of cars get demolished behind you by huge metal claws.
