Ears Wide Open: DreamVacation

On their debut EP, L.A. quartet DreamVacation let rip with four tracks of expansive shoegazing, all speaking, the band says, to the notion that you can escape “the tribulations of daily existence” by letting your subconscious take over. Oh, and turning up the volume helps, too. The foursome — singer-guitarist Ray Silva, drummer Noah Alexander, guitarist Morgan Terrinoni and bassist Gerry Matthews — move on from their previous incarnation as Atlantic Line in search of more epic territory. Their densely layered, atmospheric guitar rock finds it, in particular, on “Press Play,” with reverb-laden guitars building to cinematic heights. The EP was recorded with John Rausch and Brian Brundage at Kingsize Soundlabs in Eagle Rock and is the first release for LaserGhost Records. It’s the kind of music that provides its own visuals; just close your eyes.
