The Cave Singers

The Cave Singers return to their original lineup for “Banshee,” the band’s fifth album. Choosing to forgo the record label route, “Banshee” will be self-released by the Seattle rockers on Feb. 19, thanks in large part to a triumphant fan-funding campaign. After a year spent working on separate projects, the mighty trio — Pete Quirk, Derek Fudesco and Marty Lunda — recorded 10 songs live in July over six days with producer Randall Dunn. The first single, “That’s Why,” should instantly consume your existence with the opening riff. There’s something reminiscent of Norman Greenbaum’s “Spirit In The Sky,” going on here, but without the Lord-loving message. The dark, stirring mood feels like the calling for a midnight gathering.
