Video: !!! (Chk Chk Chk), ‘Ooo’

!!! (Chk Chk Chk) enlisted Casper Kelly, creator of Adult Swim’s “Too Many Cooks,” to examine the dating woes of space travelers in the “Ooo” music video. It’s a song that asks a simple yet profound question, “Should we be together for, like, ever girl?” In the video, we follow a portly Captain on a series of failed sexual encounters. Every time he goes home with a hot alien chick or monster from da club, inevitably their hook-up’s significant other finds them in bed and the Captain must beam himself out of the bedroom right away. But this one green woman, he can’t seem to get her out of his mind. He’s ready to, like, take it to another level, but she’s ignoring his calls. Does the story have a happy ending? Director Casper Kelly says “It was such a thrill to shoot. I wish I could live in the world of this video.” “Ooo” can be found on “As If,” the band’s latest dance-punk doozy on Warp Records.

Those who catch !!! this week in Los Angeles are in for a surprise. Opening for the band is Stereolad … which is !!! covering Stereolab. Frontman Nic Offer says “Why? Just for a kicks, for a laugh, just cuz we want to. Same reasons we’ve been !!! all along. But seriously, we like a challenge, it seemed like a fun way to press our boundaries, we like to play, it was cheaper than hiring the real Stereolab to open for us and I look fantastic in a dress.” It’s a privilege that comes with being a band since the mid-1990s. You get to be your own opener if you darn well choose.
