Stream: Bishop, ‘River’

L.A.-based British singer Bishop debuted last year to much acclaim with the single “Wild Horses,” a smoky, alluring conflagration of vocals and beats made with production duo Mark Jackson and Ian Scott. That pair is also integral to the ascent of hell-on-wheels blues-rock quartet Dorothy, and Bishop’s new single “River” shares the same musical roots. Announcing itself with finger-picked guitar and handclaps, “River” is an old-school gospel stomp that’s only a church choir away from heaven. It’s 2016, of course, so the song’s bottom end feels like blows to the body, but Bishop’s soulful belting gives “River” a powerful current. Can we get an amen?
