Air Life had Chaka Khan in mind when they wrote “Searchin’ For An Answer,” a soul-pop tune about “lust at first sight,” that moment when two strangers choose each other on the dance floor, deciding to swap spit and other romantic things. To hit the grooves that fuel his love for R&B, Air Life’s leader and singer Taylor Dexter knows you need to go big band style. Over time the Los Angeles collective has grown to include drummer Brijesh Pandya, bassist Brad Babinski, Derek Howa on keys, singer Cassandra Violet, Mark Einhorn on saxophone, and guitarists Blake Straus and Wesley Singerman. Since embarking on the project in 2014, Air Life has released two singles on local indie label New Professor Music. In addition to Chaka, Air Life says they’re inspired by Michael Jackson, Kendrick Lamar, Blondie, Little Dragon, Sade and music from N64 games, specifically “Major League Baseball featuring Ken Griffey Jr.” and “Mario Kart 64.” We’d really like to hear Air Life make a sexy soundtrack to Mario Kart, full of sultry sax. Nothing like a good video game session to get things hot.
