Crown Plaza is one of the musical tentacles of one of L.A. most talented left-handers, Nima Kazerouni (So Many Wizards), and if you remember its 2012 origins, you know that the project was named for the Crowne Plaza hotel near LAX — Kazerouni’s “scenic view” during the time he was living in a back room at his father’s rental car office. The languid, reverb-saturated pop on 2012’s “Chem Waves Vol. 1” reflected that unsettling sensation you get when you feel isolated in a bustling place. The washed-out bliss of the new song “Staring at the Wall” was inspired by Kazerouni’s trips between L.A. and Tucson, Ariz., where his daughter was born. With Crown Plaza expanded to a full-band effort with guitarist James Roehl, bassist Martin Tomemitsu and drummer Christina Galliard, a full-length album is in works. But first, a 7-inch single of “Staring at the Sun” (b/w “LGO”) via Danger Collective Records later this month.
