Video: Frightened Rabbit, ‘Get Out’

Scottish quintet Frightened Rabbit have released the lead single and video from their forthcoming LP, “Painting of a Panic Attack,” due out April 8 via Canvasback and Atlantic Records. Their fifth album is a follow-up to 2013’s “Pedestrian Verse,” which took Frightened Rabbit from frontman Scott Hutchison’s solo project with regular band members to a proper band with all members contributing ideas (alhugh Hutchison did did manage to get one last solo effort out of his system under the moniker Owl John in 2014). In addition to an upcoming album, Frightened Rabbit will play a slew of festivals, including their homeland’s T In The Park, and will embark on a headlining tour this spring.

With “Painting of a Panic Attack,” Frightened Rabbit entrusted former tour mate and major influence, the National’s Aaron Dessner as their producer. Lead single, “Get Out,” is a rhythmic yet somber take on love’s woes with lyrics that hit like a bullet to the chest. “There’s a heavenly scar / it lets me know / she won’t get out of my heart,” wails Hutchison in his Scottish brogue. According to the frontman, the song is about being completely addicted to another person, “they live in your blood and will not leave.” He adds, “I’ve always found it compelling to write about the physical nature of love and loss, rather than the mental aspect. ‘Get Out’ continues that exploration and takes it to a somewhat obsessive level.” The video, directed by Greg Davenport, captures Scott’s sentiment in the form of two girls navigating their way through young love. It’s impossible not to fall for Frightened Rabbit with this one – leaving behind a heavy heart and butterflies in our tummies.
