Moving Panoramas just made their rounds at SXSW as one of Austin’s most buzzed about local acts. Leslie Sisson (guitars/vocals) and Karen Skloss (drums) met in film school, while Sisson mentored Rozie Castoe (bass/vocals) at School of Rock. After splitting off from various primary projects, the Texas trio made their collaboration official. Now these shoegazing ladies blend the cinematic dreaminess of a John Hughes soundtrack with the fuzziness of modern-day indie pop.

Primary songwriter Leslie Sisson pulled from personal hardships when writing their debut album, “One,” out now on Modern Outsider. The death of a mother, a kidnapping at gunpoint, a murdered friend, and a breakup would be disastrously traumatic for anybody. How does one even begin to process a series of such unfortunate events? If you’re Sisson, you write. “One is how we all came in / One is how we all will go / We all know one is the number we all fear the most,” sings Sisson on the title track as she simultaneously embraces independence and fears loneliness. The accompanying video, directed by Zachary Parks, features Josh T. Pearson in one of worst breakups ever conducted followed by a joyfully awkward trip to a karaoke bar. See? Karaoke doesn’t always have to be dreadful. Thanks, Moving Panoramas.
