Over five albums, Field Music, the long-running venture of brothers Peter and David Brewis, has rearranged the furniture of indie music, straddling the post-punk and pop worlds with their adventuresome compositions. The media in their native U.K. dubbed them “prog-pop,” and it’s probably never been more true than with their latest album “Commontime,” which came out in February. It has a funky flavor, and with its Steely Dan vibe “Disappointed” is one of the highlights. It’s a cautionary relationship tale: “If you need me to be everything / you’re gonna be disappointed,” they sing. The video for the song was filmed in a gym in Sunderland bu Andy Martin and is “partly inspired by me seeing (many years ago) the bullet-time technique used in a Ryoichiro Debuchi film from the early ’80s.” Give it a spin. The band, expanded to a five-piece live, this week winds up their first U.S. tour in five years.
