Where does the time go? When we last issued a dispatch on L.A.-based singer-songwriter-producer Jake Troth, it was November 2013. The release of his album “Double Black Diamond” seemed imminent and he screened his short film of that name at Bardot. So time-hop to last October, when the bulletin came that Atlantic Records would release the album, and then to last week, when the short film finally made its way into the world. Co-written by Troth and director Stewart Yost and co-starring Angela Choe, it’s a wry look (with a romantic twist, naturally) on the media and musicians. Troth, a native of Davidson, N.C., moved to L.A. over five years ago to pursue music, and since he has worked as a co-writer and/or producer with the likes of Kelly Rowland, Jennifer Lopez, Lil Wayne, Erik Hassle, Kevin Gates and Big Boi. He’s done some work in film too, and his versatile chops push all the right buttons in this storyline. One of the morals: Have a good answer to the stupidest of questions. The album, co-produced by Alex Goose, will be out later this year.
