Since 1998, Pollyn has made music blending samples from records they love with Adam Jay Weissman’s analogue synths and vintage drum machines and Genevieve Artadi’s vocals. Alongside guitarist Anthony Cava, the trio are self-releasing a new album called “Distress Signals” on May 13, which finds them reinvigorating their old tricks after oh-so-many years of finessing the signature Pollyn sound. “Too Late To Change The Past” samples vocals from the song “Intensity” by legendary folk singer Linda Perhacs, a song off her 2014 album, “The Soul of All Natural Things.” The sample doesn’t come through in an obvious or even recognizable way, chopped and reconstituted as a rhythm, a secret that music nerds can share over cocktail conversation. When she heard the beat Weissman created, Artadi was shacked up in a big house during spooky weather, and wrote a song about a femme fatale trying to leave trouble behind her and start anew. Weissman claims this is the Pollyn song he has always worked to create. “It has all the elements that we as a band have been trying to achieve.”
