Charming Liars

Charming Liars are the guitar rock trio of Mike Kruger (bass), Karnig Manoukian (guitar) and Kiliyan Maguire (vocals), who formed in London and felt the pull of Los Angeles’ Sunset Strip rock scene. Their next step was to pack their bags, drop out of university and move across the pond. Now based in L.A., Charming Liars are gearing up for the release of their album, “12:31AM” on May 27. The full-length is the follow-up to last fall’s “Delete Repeat” EP, which showcased their big, polished sound. In April, the band put out an animated video, directed by the Jiménez Brothers, for the album’s first single, “Soul.” The track builds into a sing-along anthem, with plenty of “whoa-oh-oh’s” providing the requisite uplift. “‘Soul’ is a song that symbolizes the passion one has when chasing their dreams and embracing the ups and downs that come with it,” explains Maguire — certainly a relatable sentiment. The song recently caught the attention of Sir Elton John via his “Rocket Hour” radio show on Beats 1. If the Rocket Man himself digs it, Charming Liars might have something going on.
