David Klotz’s resumé includes multiple Emmy Awards for his work as music editor for a bunch of TV shows with which you might be familiar — HBO’s “Game of Thrones,” for one, along with FX’s “American Horror Story” and Netflix’s “Stranger Things.” Before those, though, he was a principal in the L.A. dream-pop outfit Fonda, who released four full-lengths between 1999 and 2013. Klotz’s new project is called People and Stars (derived from the title of a song on Fonda’s 2001 album “The Strange and the Familiar”), which combines his talents with the vocals of Beverly Hills native Amanda Tate, an actress whose work in improvisational comedy has found her onstage at Second City Hollywood and the iO West Theatre.
The duo’s first single “You’re Not Alone” sounds lovingly shaped from pop’s past, equal parts Motown and British Invasion, with Tate’s wistful words of comfort awash in swelling strings, gentle piano and a twining trumpet melody. It’s the first song from an EP that People and Stars have on the way later this year; the single is out July 15 via Minty Fresh.
