Stream: PAPA, ‘Comfort’s a Killer’

The new single from L.A.’s PAPA is the anti-complacency anthem “Comfort’s a Killer,” a dancey soul-rocker that warns against the perils of ever thinking you’ve got it made. Or, as singer-drummer Darren Weiss told Noisey, where the song premiered: “Seems to me that if you work hard enough for security and comfort in this life, you might get it. But after you do, you’ll probably look around, cross-eyed with boredom and say, ‘What for?'”

The song is the from the band’s second album, “Kick at the Dust,” due Sept. 16, which finds Weiss and partner-in-groove Daniel Presant returning to Hit City U.S.A. (the label that released the band’s first EP back in 2011). With Presant throwing down a dirty bass line and Weiss wailing and pounding (and adding cowbell), “Comfort’s a Killer” is another of episode of PAPA turning a pointed message into a sweaty dance-floor bash.
