Since Caught a Ghost released the debut album “Human Nature” in 2014, mastermind Jesse Nolan has been recalibrating. Moving away from Stax- and Motown-inspired neo-soul, he’s polished his production skills to dip his toes into the world of alt-R&B. Except for a one-off collaboration last year with Robyn the Bank, the new single “If You Only Knew” is Caught a Ghost’s first new music since that full-length. It’s about the souring of a relationship, and you can feel the heartbreak in the drop. “Every time I told a lie / it was just to keep you by my side,” Nolan confesses over the oozing production of sampled vocals and snap-clap beats. One thing for sure: Nolan’s days as a rock guitarist are now far, far in the past. Caught a Ghost’s sophomore album, “Second Sight,” is due this fall.
