Back in March, PBR-swillin’ ruffians Criminal Hygiene were asked, last-minute, to cover a handful of Replacements songs at a party celebrating the release of the boxed set “The Replacements: The Sire Years.” In spirit (and execution, since they were slightly under-rehearsed), the Echo Park trio nailed it. And apparently the beer still flows, and maybe somebody’s flicked a cigarette ash or two into the can: The new single from Michael Hiller, Michael Fiore and Sean Erickson, “Dangers of Convenience,” bristles with the ’Mats’ astringent wisdom. Criminal Hygiene are overdue for some of substantial release, and in between cheering for any indie band who doesn’t try to sound like the Ramones, we wish they’d hurry up.
