If Pop Cautious’ song “Blue Dream” doesn’t want to make you want to pack your things and head for the beach, then the video directed by Brennan Peirson will. As feel-good vibes go, the earth is moving here, as Mr. Cautious himself — Texas native Tyler Porterfield — spends a day in the sun with his guitar and friends. What else could a man need? Porterfield, who makes music under the name Pop Cautious and helms a label by the same name, released Pop Cautious’ self-titled EP last month, having debuted the songs this summer at a performance at Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros pop-up gallery. At its core, he says, “Blue Dream” is a song about weed (he unveiled it on April 20, of course), but in the context of the EP, “it’s the beginning of a true love story that begins with healing after … experiencing the sudden end of a two-year relationship. I needed to rediscover myself. I found I was able to really understand peace, patience, and forgiveness.” And the most feel-good part about the whole process? “The girl who I made the song for ended up hearing it,” Porterfield says. “We eventually started talking again and are now back together. She’s in the video.”
