Haathi is the new iteration of the music of Brijesh Pandya, who can be spotted behind the drum kit for L.A. artists such as Steady Holiday, Alina Bea, Air Life and Cassandra Violet. Two years ago, Pandya struck out on his own, fronting the quartet Wild Awake and releasing an EP. His first single as Haathi (Hindi for elephant), is “Say Goodnight,” a slow-building indie-popper with an insistent groove that will make you a believer by the end of its 3 1/2 minutes. Released last month, it’s got happy feet, but with an acrid lyrical bite. “Think Poolside with storm clouds,” Pandya says. The song was self-produced with assists from bassist Owen Clapp and mixer Theo Karon, and live the singer-guitarist is joined by Clapp on bass, keyboardist-guitarist Ryan Kern and drummer Andres Salazar.
