Sharon Jones won’t be home for Christmas, which makes the sentiment behind “Please Come Home for Christmas” all the more bittersweet and poignant. The legendary soul singer died last month at age 60 after a long battle with pancreatic cancer, and just last week there were remembrances for Jones in her home cities of Brooklyn and Augusta, Ga. The delightful video for the song by Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings, which appears on 2015’s holiday compilation “It’s A Holiday Soul Party!,” was completed and scheduled for release before Jones’ death. The stop-motion video is the work of Alex Howard and David Drew Hatter and consists of more than 3,200 images, all captured with an iPhone 6 Plus using a stop motion app. It took three months, 600 man-hours and 12 cans of flocking. Grab a Kleenex, and mark Jan. 7 on your calendar; that’s the date the documentary “Miss Sharon Jones!” will be released to Netflix.
