If Phoebe Bridgers’ voice doesn’t give you the chills (or is that the “feels?”) in her new single “Smoke Signals,” the strings will. If that doesn’t work, try listening to what the 22-year-old singer-songwriter is saying. And if that doesn’t work, check your pulse. “Smoke Signals” is the first original from Bridgers since her Ryan Adams-helmed EP “Killer” released in 2015 (she did contribute to last year’s Emmylou Harris tribute). Produced by Tony Berg (Andrew Bird, Blake Mills, Aimee Mann) and mixed by Mike Mogis, the song was written last year in a cabin outside Ketchum, Idaho, and you can hear some Big Sky country in it. It will be out Friday digitally and available as a 7-inch on her upcoming European tour dates support Conor Oberst. There’s a full-length album in the works as well, so stay tuned for information on that. At 5 1/2 minutes, it’s too short.
