It turns out Kendrick Lamar wasn’t the only L.A. artist to drop new music on the eve of Coachella weekend. East L.A.’s Thee Commons, whose self-styled “psychedelic cumbia punk” and off-the hook live shows have quickly made them local favorites, on Thursday unveiled the first two songs from their next album, “Paleta Sonora,” which will be released in September. The follow-up to last year’s album “Loteria Tribal,” “Selena’s Butt” and “Work It Out” are out as a “double single” (there will be limited-edition physical releases, as a flexi-vinyl postcard and as a CD single). In June, they will have another single, and by September, Thee Commons will be in business for themselves; the album will be released on vinyl via their own new label, Tropa Magica. Even better, both these new singles are 3-minute party pills.
