Echo Park underground favorites VS Colour have made their mark as one of the most genre-defying outfits in the neighborhood, often leaving fans playing whatchacallit after throwing down a set of groove-heavy, technically beguiling math-funk/psych-R&B/or … whatchacallit. The quartet — singer-multi-instrumentalist  Joe Bates, guitarist Alex Belmonte, bassist Wolfgang Woodcock and drummer Ivan Wayman — released their mini-album “9-9-D9” in 2015, and their new single “Let Go” is coming out via the Chain Letter Collective (Facial, QunQ, Fakers). Both the languid new single and its blue-hued video ooze eroticism — if VS Colour were going for Prince here, they got in the zone. “This was a collaboration of close friends,” the band says of the video, directed by Jean Gusto. “We just wanted to make something beautiful. We recorded the song live, and the video is a single, edited take. This is our first-ever video, so it’s been a learning process as well. We are very excited to share a glimpse into our little world.” And lest you think the band’s little world is all glossy and slick, stay til the end.
