Ears Wide Open: POLLA

Los Angeles musicians Zoe-Ruth Erwin and Jonathan Haskell are longtime friends, but the first project they’ve given a name — POLLA (stylized as P O L L A) — ended up being a long-distance collaboration. Erwin, the singer-songwriter-visual artist who fronted the band Little Red Lung, has been splitting her time between L.A. and Iceland. Haskell, the keyboardist-composer behind Seven Saturdays and one-half of the duo Glasz, plies his trade making cinematic music in Southern California. Their first single truly abides the title “Miles” — a glacially beautiful meditation that, the band says, was birthed “from a solo Rhodes track in Long Beach, to a vocal and production session in Iceland, to New York for mix and master.” It’s available for free download on Bandcamp. Earlier this year, in his Seven Saturdays guise, Haskell tapped Erwin to sing on a cover of “Questions in a World of Blue,” just in time for the “Twin Peaks” reboot.
