With their first single, last fall’s “Alive,” and their January residency at the Satellite, Warbly Jets set off on a mission to send sneering, snarling wall-of-guitar rock back into the public consciousness. They made strides — Liam Gallagher noticed, they opened for the Dandy Warhols and current tour plans have the quartet heading for both China and the U.K. — even if the brokers of music commerce have been slow to come around. As is some bands’ wont, they’ve directed a volley at the music industry, in the way of their second single “The Lowdown.” Beginning with a backbeat and bass line concocted by keyboardist Julien O’neill, the quartet (O’neill, Samuel Shea, Dan Gerbang and Justin Goings) ladles on the big, brash guitars. No wonder somebody named Gallagher likes it. Warbly Jets have an album virtually completed, but until it finds a home they will continue to direct their unholy racket to the indie masses.
