Video: Send Medicine, ‘She Believes In The Devil’

“She Believes in the Devil” offers a taste of what’s to come on the next Send Medicine album, which singer Julian Hacquebard says will traverse “loud rock, glam, mellow cosmic country, baggy-psychedelia, full on folk and dashes of the tribal and electronic.” Recorded in December 2016 by Mark Rains at Station House in Echo Park, the song was mixed by Hacquebard and bassist Aaron Stern. It’s the first piece of new music the band has put out since last year’s psych-electronic single “Translucent” and their debut album, “Scary Aquarius Daughter.”
Hacquebard felt this easy-going psych-pop tune was right for the summer: “It’s pretty laid back but has reflective lyrics and a mysterious undertone to it, something that seems to be in sync with this heat wave L.A. is going through right now.”
Shot in Joshua Tree by Yoni Goldberg and directed by Hacquebard and bandmate Ryan Glennan, the video stars local visual artist Nouel Riel, who emerges from a leather bag on a desert cliff, stumbles upon an abandoned mid-century bungalow, “only to have her absolute way with it,” in Hacquebard’s words, which includes dancing in the living room, trying on clothes, shaving with a knife, drawing on herself, and some devil worshiping on the bed.
