After being associated with the club for most of 17-plus years, Jennifer Tefft is out as talent buyer at the Satellite.

Her replacement is Scott Reifman, currently the talent buyer at the Pico Boulevard club The Mint and founder of management/booking group the Odds On Agency. The club’s owner, Jeff Wolfram, confirmed the change this week.

“It’s a great opportunity,” Reifman said. “I’m still going to be doing the Mint, so there will be a lot on my plate, but I’m up for it and grateful for the chance.”

Tefft began working at the club at 1717 Silver Lake Blvd. as a door person and eventually became a booker for Spaceland Presents, the concert promoters who did shows there. (The club became known as Spaceland because, starting in the mid-’90s, Spaceland Presents were the only promoters to do shows there. After Wolfram and Spaceland Presents ended their agreement in 2010, the club was christened The Satellite.) Tefft worked for Spaceland Presents until 2009, then returned to 1717 Silver Lake Blvd. in 2010 as the in-house talent buyer.

The venue has not only hosted memorable shows from bands that would go on to become huge but gained a reputation for being an incubator — mainly through its Monday night residencies — for many emerging bands from the L.A. scene.

“Obviously I have a lot of feelings involving that room,” Tefft said, “but I’m excited for the future.”

Reifman, who takes over in an increasingly competitive club environment in central and northwest L.A., said his goals for the club “are to have the best bands and the best shows, and to have the best reputation with those bands and the industry.

“There is a lot of competition, but I think there’s enough room for everybody,” Reifman said. “We have to make that room the hot place to be again.”
