Mt. Joy

The early singles from L.A.-by-way-of-Philadelphia folk-rockers Mt. Joy — starting with the poignant “Astrovan,” released last fall — have struck a chord with fans. So much, in fact, that the band’s new video for the song “Cardinal” is the work of one of them. The stop-motion video, which is not unlike Dan Deacon’s “Paddling Ghost,” is the work of Susie Shelton, who lovingly cut and colored paper figurines to illustrate Matt Quinn’s soothing reassurances that “everything’s exactly where it needs to be.” It’s no surprise that this fledgling project is already so rigorously supported, as many eagerly await their debut album. Helmed by Quinn and Sam Cooper, who put their jobs in the legal profession on hold to make music, Mt. Joy now includes Michael Byrnes (bass), Sotiris Eliopoulos (drums) and Terrance Mack (keys).
