L.A. music promoters Spaceland Presents, who helm the Regent Theater, Echo and Echoplex, are expanding their reach to Northern California, today announcing a partnership with the Ritz Night Club in downtown San Jose.
The first shows under the new arrangement are this week, featuring the Growlers.
The Ritz, founded in 2013 by Corey O’Brien, is a 530-capacity theater in a highly competitive live music market that includes San Francisco, Oakland, Berkeley and Santa Cruz. “As the Ritz [is], Spaceland Presents is a progressive company run by industry veterans,” O’Brien said in a press release. “We wanted a legitimate relationship with a forward-thinking company with 300-, 500- and 1,000-capacity rooms in Southern California.”
Said Mitchell Frank of Spaceland Presents: “Spaceland has been looking for the right opportunity to expand into Northern California. We built our reputation by nurturing young touring acts and turning neighborhoods into cultural hubs. … We hope to duplicate what we have done in Silver Lake and Echo Park.”
Chris Diaz, Spaceland’s VP/senior talent buyer, will oversee booking for the Ritz.
