News bits: Morrissey Day, Emo Nite Day lineup, Lauren Ruth Ward, A Positive Spin benefit

► Friday is officially “Morrissey Day” in Los Angeles. City Council issued the proclamation today, and the 58-year-old singer will be presented with a certificate at the first of two sold-out shows at the Hollywood Bowl on Friday night. “Morrissey Day honors the man who put the ‘M’ in Moz Angeles, an icon whose music continues to touch and uplift countless people across the globe,” Councilwoman Monica Rodriguez said in introducing the resolution.

In other Moz news, his new album “Low in High School” will be out Nov. 17; he recently unveiled new songs from it, “Jacky’s Only Happy When She’s Up on Stage” and “I Wish You Lonely;” there will be a Morrissey pop-up store at 8250 Melrose Ave. opening that day, though Nov. 19; and the Hollywood Bowl menus will go all-vegetarian for this weekend’s shows.

► The bulk of the lineup for Emo Nite Day at the Shrine Expo Hall & Grounds on Dec. 3 has been announced:  It includes The Used (acoustic), Machine Gun Kelly, Tigers Jaw, Craig Owens (Chiodos), Finch, Aaron Gillespie (Underoath and The Almost), Frank Zummo (Sum 41), Mom Jeans,  Teenage Wrist, DALES and a host of others. There’s a special guest to be announced, and a plethora of DJ sets. Tickets start at $59.50 and are available here.

► Lauren Ruth Ward had an album-release show in late September, but she’ll probably have another in 2018. It’s confusing, but basically: Ward has planned to self release “Well, Hell” this fall and scheduled a date accordingly. Then at the 11th hour, she was picked up by Weekday Records. Today, the official album release date was announced: Feb. 9.* Also, she’ll be back at the Bootleg on Dec. 7 opening for Nicole Atkins. Tickets here.

► AOE (Ambassadors of Earth), Falcons, Grandson, GG Magree, Hoodboi and Promnite, along with a DJ set from Nosaj Thing, will be the entertainment at the benefit concert A Positive Spin on Dec. 6 at the El Rey Theatre. Staged by the Paradigm Talent Agency, the fundraisers (started in 2014 and this year expanding to include a second night with a different lineup in New York) benefit Los Angeles’ Inner-City Arts and NYC’s Lower East Side Girls Club.
